It is important to maintain a positive digital footprint because your future career may depend on it. A 2009 study by Career Builders found that 20% of employers check social media sites before hiring new employees. This will become even more likely to happen in the future.

Another piece of your digital footprint that can give people an impression about you is your email address. Make sure that when someone reads the name you have chosen for your email, they get a good first impression of you. [1]
